Description

Loosely inspired by the multi-disciplined South African artist William Kentridge. A simple abstract form of tearing paper.

Bio

Fraser Valley artist Jim Unger creates contemporary sculptures using steel, copper, colour, and patina. With a background in woodworking and cabinetry, he describes himself as a blue-collar artist dedicated to craftsmanship, experimentation, and evolving material possibilities. Loosely inspired by South African artist William Kentridge, Torn Paper - Yellow transforms the simple gesture of torn paper into bold abstract sculpture. Unger captures movement and spontaneity within rigid industrial materials, creating a surprising sense of lightness and fluidity. The work reflects his ongoing exploration of texture, shape, and colour while demonstrating how ordinary gestures can become expressive sculptural statements.
