Lashen Orendorff

Lashen Orendorff

Winlaw, BC

Description

Forged by hand from solid scrap steel, this piece invites a thought for the creatures affected by habitat loss due to extractive industry and development.

Bio

Slocan Valley artist-blacksmith Lashen Orendorff combines sculpture, craft, and industrial materials to create expressive contemporary works. A graduate of Selkirk College’s Sculptural Metals program and a founding member of the Blackbird Arts Society, Orendorff is passionate about collaborative creative practice and advancing dialogue within the industrial arts. His work often reflects on labour, industry, ecology, and the physical qualities of steel itself. Forged entirely from reclaimed scrap steel, Rust Bird considers the impact of development and resource extraction on wildlife and disappearing ecosystems. The hand-forged sculpture carries both physical weight and emotional tension, balancing raw materiality with sensitivity and humanity.
