Andrew Hellmund

Andrew Hellmund

Victoria, BC

Description

This piece originated in Southern Minnesota. However, it wasn’t until I came to Vancouver Island that the change in landscape and materials helped to resolve it in only ways that the sea can influence.

Bio

Victoria-based sculptor Andrew C. Hellmund studied Architectural Studies and Studio Art in upstate New York before completing an MFA in Sculpture at the University of Alberta. Drawing from both architectural design and contemporary sculpture practices, his work often explores movement, structure, landscape, and spatial relationships. Midwestern Summer began in the American Midwest but evolved after the artist relocated to Vancouver Island, where the ocean and coastline reshaped the work’s final form. Through carefully balanced geometric forms and flowing movement, Hellmund captures a dialogue between land and sea, permanence and change, structure and fluidity.
