Mikhail Pertsev

Vancouver, BC

Description

This stylized semi-realistic sculpture depicts a man observing and meditating, grounded yet leaning on invisible support, balancing the dual forces of human existence: gravity and spirituality.

Bio

Born in Eastern Europe, second-generation artist and educator Mikhail Pertsev absorbed artistic traditions and cultures from both East and West, influences that continue to shape his contemporary sculpture practice. Holding an MFA with a specialization in public art sculpture, Pertsev explores human experience, observation, and spirituality through simplified figurative forms. Meditation depicts a contemplative figure suspended between gravity and transcendence, grounded physically while reaching toward the spiritual. The sculpture reflects the tension between material existence and inner thought, emphasizing reflection, and emotional equilibrium - how balance is often found through navigating opposing forces rather than eliminating them.
