Rabi'a

Rabi'a

Winlaw, BC

Description

The joy of found pieces. I did not alter or cut a single one of these pieces. All as I found them.

Bio

Born in Holland and immigrating to Canada with her family in 1958, Winlaw artist Rabi’a came to sculpture later in life after exploring mosaics, glass, ceramics, textiles, and stone carving. Entirely self-taught, she is known for assembling whimsical works from salvaged steel and found objects, guided by curiosity, intuition, and a love of scavenging forgotten materials. Joy celebrates the beauty of discovered objects, incorporating unaltered pieces exactly as they were found. Playful and expressive, her work transforms rusty fragments into something imaginative, lively, and full of personality.
