Description

Canadian Woman represents energy, mobility and strength exhibited by women now succeeding in traditional male roles. The scavenged, chrome, smashed bumpers relate to the self-destruction of our society.

Bio

Burnaby artist Ronald Simmer creates whimsical and thought-provoking sculptures from recycled and discarded materials. With a background in fabrication, boat building, commercial fishing, and librarianship, he transforms consumer waste into imaginative public art. Constructed from smashed chrome truck bumpers salvaged from wrecked vehicles, Canadian Woman is an abstract sculpture exploring the energy, mobility, and strength of women succeeding in traditionally male roles. The damaged industrial materials also reflect the self-destructive tendencies of modern society, creating a striking contrast between resilience and destruction. Simmer’s work combines creativity, social commentary, and inventive reuse to encourage reflection on culture and consumption.
