Rabi'a & Carl Schlichting

Winlaw, BC

Doodles are an act of free flow, spontaneous, uninhibited art. Picasso was conjured coincidentally but is a delightful gift.

Winlaw-based artist Rabi'a was born in Holland and emigrated to Canada at fifteen with her family of ten. She came to her calling as an artist and sculptor via many bends in the road, and not until she was in her 60s. Artistically self-taught, she learned to weld a number of years ago and continues to create in her current passion -- metal, often adorned with colourful paint, mosaic tile, and hidden objects to delight the viewer.
A prairie farm boy, Carl grew up inspired by the land and gifted siblings. A fine arts diploma from Vancouver City College, Langara, set his passion for form and sculpture. A further 25 years becoming a widely travelled and experienced museum professional has deepened his knowledge of materials and process and opened a potentially new chapter in form and exploration.
